Meet the Team: 5 questions for Vicky Huxford

Over the coming months, we’re going to meet the whole team at Suzanne Howe Communications, asking each of them just five questions. We’ve already met SHC founder and Managing Director Suzanne Howe and here, we meet Vicky Huxford who joined SHC 11 years ago.

How have times changed?

I have been at SHC 11 years now and have really loved working here and being part of such a great team.  So much has changed in the industry since I started in 2013.  From going into the office – as remote working wasn’t a thing back then – to even using a fax machine! One of the key shifts has been the move towards digital platforms and online engagement. The introduction of social media has been a really exciting time in PR, SHC regularly posts on 4 social accounts and we all have personal accounts.  Social media has definitely enabled us to reach more people and add more impact to our campaigns.

Do any particular achievements stand out?

In my time at SHC I have worked with numerous clients in different sectors. I have predominately worked in the food area which is where my passion lies. From starting with smaller consumer campaigns to bigger trade campaigns each client and campaign has been different and varied. What I love about SHC is that our clients like to keep with us for a long period of time, because they trust us and the PR we provide. We have worked with a client Dina Foods for five and a half years now and it has been brilliant to see the transformation that good photography, traditional PR methods and social media has achieved for the brand. They are recognised as an industry leader and that is really satisfying to see.

What’s special about SHC?

We have such a great team with very different skill sets and that’s what makes it work. We all know each other really well with some team members having worked together for 20 years and some new team members recently on board, which adds to the dynamic. The knowledge and experience in the team is second to none. I’m constantly learning from my colleagues and I love this! We are all based in different areas and with the new world of remote working this works really well. We regularly meet face to face when we can and it’s lovely to have colleagues as well as friends.

What are your hopes for the future?

Suzanne and I have started to attend events for women in the food industry and it’s exciting to see the growth in this area. We plan to go to more events in the future and are really enjoying networking in this space. SHC is expanding into new sectors and recently took on a client in the lifestyle sector. This was a really exciting opportunity to get involved in, and I hope to continue working on new clients, different sectors and networking into the future!

That’s enough about SHC… what about you?

I’m a mum of two boys aged 7 and 9, and they keep me busy! The four of us regularly go out cycling and we are all looking forward to a family holiday to France this year, near the mountains. I need to get cycling more to keep up with them all! I’m definitely a foodie, I do love trying a new restaurant and eating out with family and friends. I like to keep fit and particularly enjoy a hilly walk!
