Taywell’s handmade ice cream ‘scoops’ top award
Luxury ice cream manufacturer Taywell is celebrating after winning a coveted ‘Q’ Quality Food Award.
The Kent-based company triumphed in the ‘Local Producer – Frozen’ category after impressing judges with its superb raspberry sorbet, which is handmade using the finest locally-sourced natural ingredients.
The 50%-fruit sorbet is produced using Kent raspberries, some of which are grown on Taywell’s own farm in Sissinghurst. The fruit is de-pipped by hand and the juice cooked with natural sugars to produce a rich, creamy taste and texture.
The ‘Q’ Award is the second major gong for the sorbet, which also won a Great Taste Award in 2007, and it comes at a time when Taywell is enjoying incredible growth.
Despite the economic downturn, the company increased sales of its premium ice creams and sorbets by 65% in the last financial year, and has doubled employee numbers. It is forecast to increase its turnover by another 100% in the current year, and to keep pace with this growth is looking to build another kitchen at its headquarters in Paddock Wood.
Taywell’s Managing Director, Alastair Jessel said: “We’re absolutely delighted with this ‘Q’ Award for our unique raspberry sorbet. Like everything we make, it is of the highest quality and it’s encouraging to see our efforts recognized by such a well respected awards scheme.”
He added: “It’s particularly heartening that an SME such as ourselves should win a ‘Q’ Award, because most of the categories are dominated by major supermarket chains. It’s fantastic to see our name up in lights with the likes of Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Marks & Spencer!”
