Dempson Crooke Ltd, one of the UK’s biggest bag suppliers, is set to wow the 2009 Ecopack exhibition with a revolutionary design. It combines the low weight and portability of a bag, with increased strength, which makes it suitable for many uses where a much heavier carton has been used up to now.
“It’s just ideal for the many occasions where a conventional paper bag is not quite strong enough,” says Jon Katzauer, Managing Director of Dempson Crooke Ltd. “Yet you still get the low material usage of a bag.”
Clever folding and strengthening inserts give the new package, which will go on sale during the second quarter of 2009, increased strength while still using the same amount of material as a bag. “That means we’ll have an alternative that’s lighter and cheaper,” he says. “Because it uses less material it will cost less to transport, using less fuel and fewer vehicle journeys, which means potentially huge environmental benefits over time.”
“We’re going to be able to replace cartons in a wide range of applications,” he says. “It works very well for children’s take away meals or food hampers. We’ve had interest from some of the most prestigious food retailers in Britain, who were looking for a convenient light packaging method with a quality feel.”
“As we talk to people, we find more and more potential uses are coming out,” he says. “There are people looking at it for clothes, shoes and other fashion items.”
“Consumers want green products,” he says. “And we’re giving them that with a cut of more than 30 percent in the volume of material used, as well as cuts in transport fuel used and therefore congestion. But they also want packaging that is new and exciting. We can give them that. The new packs can be fully printed with whatever logo and information you want. They’re easier to carry out of the shop than a conventional carton, especially for slightly more bulky items.”
Dempson Crooke Ltd will be on stand 429a of Ecopack 09 which takes place at the NEC in Birmingham on 11-12 February 2009.
“Come and have a look at the new package and talk to us about how something really new in packaging could help your business,” says Jon Katzauer.
